Additional Traffic Management Arrangements as of 16 August 2021

Weekly Traffic Management

Please find below a summary of additional traffic management arrangements to accommodate site investigations works and utility diversions outside the main area of works.

 

LEITH WALK

Antigua Street - Access  

From Wednesday 11 August the vehicle access to Gayfield Square was reinstated as per previous traffic management arrangements.  


Leith Walk - Cycleway Closure 

To progress with construction of the permanent cycleway from Annandale Street to Foot of the Walk, we have closed the temporary cycleway for the full length of Leith Walk.


Middlefield - Pedestrian Crossing

The crossing point on Leith Walk at Middlefield will be moving approximately 30m south from Thursday 26 August to allow works to progress.


McDonald Road/Croall Place - Pedestrian Crossing

A pedestrian crossing point has been installed across Leith Walk to the north of the McDonald Road junction.


Pilrig Street Junction Closure

To progress the main infrastructure works on Leith Walk, Pilrig Street junction is currently closed to traffic.


Closure of the Pilrig Waiting Area on Leith Walk

To ensure people can still visit the area to shop and go about their business we are relocating short-term waiting areas on Leith Walk. The new waiting areas will be located north of Annandale Street and north of Iona Street. Both areas can be accessed via the citybound traffic lane.

 


Iona Street - Road Closure

The road closure on Iona Street from Leith Walk to the junction of Buchanan Street commenced on Monday 14 June for approximately 16 weeks for drainage system works.  Parking has been suspended for the duration of the closure with pedestrian access being be maintained. 


Lorne Street - Road Closure 

Installation of the new attenuation pipes which will support surface water drainage in the local area is now complete and reinstatement works have commenced.  Lorne Street will remain closed from Leith Walk to the junction of Lorne Place until the evening of Wednesday 25 August.  Access to Lorne Place, Lorne Square and South Lorne Place is via Easter Road.  Pedestrian access is maintained however parking is also suspended for the duration of the closure. 


Springfield Street - Footway Works

From Monday 2 August the fence line near Springfield Street will be extended west to accommodate footway works for approximately six weeks. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.


Foot of the Walk – Temporary Traffic Lights

The carriage way at the Foot of the Walk junction will be reduced to one lane traffic, controlled by temporary traffic lights. This will be in place from Wednesday 11 August and is expected to be in place until Winter 2021/22.

 

FOOT OF THE WALK TO NEWHAVEN 

Mitchell Street – Road Closure

UPDATE: The closure on Mitchell Street / Maritime Lane will remain in place until late August / early September.  This is to accommodate hard landscaping and public realm works in the area.

We will be closing vehicle access to Maritime Lane from Mitchell Street on Wednesday 7 April. This closure is to progress track works across the junction and is expected for up to ten weeks. A  temporary pedestrian walkway connecting both sides of the street between Queen Charlotte Street and Mitchell Street/Maritime Lane has been installed and will be in place to facilitate the ongoing works.


Traffic Management Adjustments at Constitution Street/Ocean Way junction with Tower Street

The current traffic management arrangements at the Constitution Street/Ocean Way junction with Tower Street to include an additional traffic light head at Constitution Place, changed from 3-way set up to 4-way. There will be adjustments to the traffic management in the coming week within this section of works.  This is to accommodate further works to the east side of Constitution Street.


Constitution Street - Constitution Place to Tower Street Traffic Management Changes

Works will start on the east side of Constitution Street. Our site will be established on the east side of Constitution Street which will see the commencement of works such as overhead line equipment (OLE) foundation works, creation of the kerb lines, surfacing, street lighting and hard landscaping works. Traffic management arrangements will be adjusted to accommodate these works from week commencing Monday 23 August and are scheduled to be complete by  Autumn 2021.  


Ocean Drive - Traffic Management at Stevedore Place

The next phase of works on Ocean Drive at Stevedore Place between Tower Place and Constitution Place commenced on 26 July 2021.  The site has been established on the south side with traffic between Ocean Drive and Constitution Street running through the north side of Stevedore Place.


Ocean Drive - Traffic Management Changes

We've made revisions to traffic management on Ocean Drive to advance tram infrastructure works. This section of works has extended eastbound. Parking restrictions are in place to accommodate the new arrangements. 


Ocean Drive – Traffic Management Changes

From Monday 23 August there will be new traffic managements arrangements installed.  There will be three way traffic lights installed to accommodate the site extension which is adjacent to the CALA Developments. These arrangements are expected to be in place until early Spring 2022.

Melrose Drive / North Leith Sands

The substation building works have progressed with the installation of containerised unit which will house the new substation tram equipment. In the coming weeks, utility connection works will be carried out across the North Leith Sands junction. This will require a temporary road closure and further details will be communicated via the project communication channels and advance warning signs will be installed in the surrounding area.  

 

 

FOOTWAY WORKS 

Constitution Street at Laurie Street - Footpath Closure 

The footway on the west side between Foot of the Walk and Laurie Street is currently closed. 


Constitution Street from Queen Charlotte Street to Bernard Street / Baltic Street

Hard landscaping and reinstatement works have started within the existing site set-up. In order to continue with these works we are extending our work space in to the footway. These new temporary arrangements will see existing fence lines being extended towards properties with the commencement of hard landscaping/public realm works. Access will be maintained to properties and where required temporary foot ways will be created on the newly laid tracks.  


Constitution Street – Maritime Lane to Bernard Street (west side)

Hard landscaping and reinstatement works started within the above location on Monday 5 July.  To accommodate these works we extended our work space in to the footway. Access will be maintained to properties and the local area.


Constitution Street Corner Baltic Street – Footway Closure

The footway on the west side of Constitution Street, at the corner of the Royal Bank of Scotland is closed travelling north bound down Constitution Street. These works started on Thursday 10 June 2021 and is expected to be in place for approximately ten weeks. Access to properties is maintained via the east side of Constitution Street/Baltic Street. 


Baltic Street to Constitution Place (east side)

There are new arrangements for pedestrians between Baltic Street and Constitution Place. These arrangements remain in place and are expected to be lifted in due course. Access to affected business will be maintained at all times.  


Bernard Street to Tower Street (west side)

There are new arrangements for pedestrians on the west foot way between Tower Street and Bernard Street.  These arrangements are expected to be in place for until late August 2021. Access to affected business will be maintained at all times. 


Ocean Drive - Footpath Closure 

The footway on Ocean Drive is currently closed, this is to allow structural works on Victoria Bridge. Diversions will be in place for all pedestrians/cyclists. These arrangements started on Monday 24 May and are expected to be in place for up to 20 weeks.
