In order to facilitate the conclusion of utility works and the main infrastructure works, the McDonald Road junction will require a full closure of McDonald Road/Leith Walk following the opening of Annandale Street which is currently scheduled for Spring 2021, this will be communicated via the projects communication channels.
The right hand access from Leith Walk will remain closed and is expected to reopen Summer 2021 when the full junction will reopen. On completion of McDonald Road works in Summer 2021, Pilrig Street will close to allow utility and main infrastructure works to be carried out across this junction.
Additionally, City of Edinburgh Council and the project have been liaising with Broughton Primary School about safety concerns and traffic congestion in and around that area. The council, alongside SFN the System and Infrastructure contractor for the project have reviewed the McDonald/Broughton Road junction and it was agreed that in order to enhance overall safety and control of the traffic a set of 3 way lights at the junction will be installed, creating 2 extra pedestrian crossings over the junction and additional lining works to create better visibility. This will also be implemented tomorrow with traffic management set up and installed after 09:30hrs.
