Traffic management changes between Foot of the Walk and Manderston Street
Find out more about the upcoming traffic management changes between Foot of the Walk (including Duke Street) and Manderston Street on Leith Walk.
** From Monday 16 May 2022 we have made alterations to the traffic management arrangements at Foot of The Walk junction to accommodate project works.
**Please note that the left hand turn from Duke Street on to Leith Walk will remain in place until Monday 23 May 2022. After this date as detailed below there will be no left hand turn from Duke Street on to Leith Walk. Access will be maintained via Manderston Street / Leith Walk junction which will re-open to traffic travelling from Easter Road to Leith Walk. Vehicles will only be allowed to turn left onto Leith Walk heading towards the city centre. This will become the main diversion route for buses and other vehicles that normally turn left from Duke Street onto Leith Walk.
Leith Walk will remain closed to all northbound traffic between Annandale Street and Crown Place.
As previously communicated, to accommodate the progression of utility clearance and track works across the junction at Foot of the Walk, traffic management arrangements will be amended over the next two weeks. These arrangements are expected to be in place until Autumn 2022. The key points to note are:
- The Manderston Street / Leith Walk junction will re-open to traffic travelling from Easter Road to Leith Walk. Vehicles will only be allowed to turn left onto Leith Walk heading towards the city centre. This will become the main diversion route for buses and other vehicles that normally turn left from Duke Street onto Leith Walk.
- There will be no left hand turn from Duke Street onto Leith Walk.
- There will be no access to Manderston Street from Leith Walk.
- Traffic will continue to be able to turn right from Great Junction Street onto Leith Walk.
- Traffic movements between Great Junction Street and Duke Street heading both ways will remain under two-way traffic management.
- Site lines will be extended on Duke Street heading east. The pedestrian crossing point will remain in place however, it will move throughout the phasing of these works.
- The pedestrian crossing point on Great Junction Street will be temporarily reinstated but will move at times throughout the phasing of these works.
- Alternative diversions will be in place which will be signposted.

Parking and access
Parking enforcement will remain in place on Great Junction Street, Manderston Street and Gordon Street to accommodate the diversion route. Manderston Street and Gordon Street will require further traffic lining works to be undertaken on 18 / 19 May 2022 ahead of the new arrangements being put in place. Please ensure that no vehicles are waiting or parked on these street as they will be removed.
Lothian Buses
The project has consulted with Lothian Buses on the proposed traffic management to allow the development of their bus diversion routes. The temporary bus stop located at Foot of the Walk will be relocated further south on Leith Walk.
