Additional Traffic Management Arrangements as of 21 June 2021

Weekly Traffic Management

Please find below a summary of additional traffic management arrangements to accommodate site investigations works and utility diversions outside the main area of works.

 

LEITH WALK

Iona Street - Road Closure

The road closure on Iona Street from Leith Walk to the junction of Buchanan Street commenced on Monday 14 June for approximately 16 weeks for drainage system works.  Parking has been suspended for the duration of the closure with pedestrian access being be maintained. 


Antigua Street

Utility diversion works commenced at Antigua Street on Wednesday 9 June 2021 for approximately seven weeks.  Parking and loading restrictions will be in place with egress from Gayfield Square changing to the north exit. 


Leith Walk at Laurie Street - Footpath Closure 

The footway on the west side between Foot of the Walk and Laurie Street is currently closed.


Leith Walk - Cycleway Closure 

To progress the full length of the permanent cycleway from Annandale Street to Foot of the Walk, works will begin on further sections on the west side of Leith Walk from Monday 24 May. These works will require the closure of the cycleway for the full length of Leith Walk.


Leith Walk at Jane Street - Footpath Changes 

There are minor adjustments to the fence line on Leith Walk at Jane Street to accommodate utility works on the footpath. These works have been extended due to complexity of the gas diversion works and with the wider gas network.  These works will be ongoing until early July 2021.


Manderston Street – Temporary Road Closure

Due to the complexity of the 500mm diameter gas diversion works on Manderston Street/Leith Walk the road closure on Manderston Street has been further extended until early July 2021.  Localised diversions and parking restriction will be in place with pedestrian access being maintained at all times. 

 


Croall Place – Adjustments to Footpath

In order to progress the works and install the new drainage system the reduction of the footpath width and closure on the bi-directional cycleway at Croall Place between McDonald Road and the large digital advertising screen on Leith Walk will remain in place.


Shrubhill - Changes to Traffic Management - UPDATE 

These works have been rescheduled for July.

From Friday 18 June the turning lane at Shrubhill will be moved to the north end of the prioritised running lane between the carpark entrance and Shrub Place. This move will enable track works to progress.


Lorne Street - Road Closure 

We will be starting the installation of the new attenuation pipes which will support surface water drainage in the local area. To facilitate these works Lorne Street will be closing from Leith Walk to the junction of Lorne Place from Monday 28 June 2021 for approximately seven weeks.  Access to Lorne Place, Lorne Square and South Lorne Place will be via Easter Road.  Pedestrian access will be maintained however parking will be suspended for the duration of the closure.

FOOT OF THE WALK TO NEWHAVEN 

 

Baltic Street Junction – Temporary Traffic Lights

The carriage way at Bernard / Baltic Street junction will be reduced to one lane traffic, controlled by temporary traffic lights. The arrangements were installed on Wednesday 17 March and will be in place until the end of June. 


Traffic Management Adjustments at Constitution Street/Ocean Way junction with Tower Street

We will be revising the current traffic management arrangements at the Constitution Street/Ocean Way junction with Tower Street to include an additional traffic light head at Constitution Place, changing the current 3-way set up to 4-way. This will be in place from Monday 29 March to further progress the works in this area.


Mitchell Street – Road Closure

UPDATE: The closure on Mitchell Street / Maritime Lane will remain in place until late August / early September.  This is to accommodate hard landscaping and public realm works in the area.

We will be closing vehicle access to Maritime Lane from Mitchell Street on Wednesday 7 April. This closure is to progress track works across the junction and is expected for up to ten weeks. A  temporary pedestrian walkway connecting both sides of the street between Queen Charlotte Street and Mitchell Street/Maritime Lane has been installed and will be in place to facilitate the ongoing works.


Constitution Street – Changes to Footpaths

From Friday 7 May there will be new arrangements for pedestrians between Baltic Street and Constitution Place. These arrangements are expected to be in place for up to 12 weeks. Access to affected business will be maintained at all times. 


Ocean Drive - Footpath Closure 

From Monday 24 May the footpath will close on Ocean Drive, this is to allow structural works on Victoria Bridge. Diversions will be in place for all pedestrians/cyclists. These arrangements are expected to be in place for up to 20 weeks. 


Constitution Street – Footway Closure

The footway on the west side of Constitution Street, at the corner of the Royal Bank of Scotland will be closed from Thursday 10 June 2021. Access to properties will be maintained via the east side of Constitution Street/Baltic Street. This closure is expected to be in place for approximately 10 weeks. 


Bernard Street/Constitution Street - Footway Works 

The footpath at the corner of Bernard Street with Constitution Street will be closed for works.  Access is maintained via Baltic Street with Constitution Street. Additional footway works at Royal Bank of Scotland on Bernard Street will begin on Wednesday 30 June.  Access to pedestrians will be maintained in to affected properties. These works are expected to last for up to three weeks.


Constitution Street from Queen Charlotte Street to Bernard Street / Baltic Street - Footway Works

Hard landscaping and reinstatement works have started within the existing site set-up. In order to continue with these works we are extending our work space in to the footway. These new temporary arrangements will see existing fence lines being extended towards properties with the commencement of hard landscaping/public realm works. Access will be maintained to properties which will lead into a temporary footway that will be created on the newly laid tracks.
