Additional Traffic Management Arrangements as of 26 April 2021

Weekly Traffic Management

Please find below a summary of additional traffic management arrangements to accommodate site investigations works and utility diversions outside the main area of works.

LEITH WALK

Leith Walk - Running Lane Closure 

The traffic running lane between Foot of the Wak (FOTW) and Pilrig Street will be closing in the evenings between the hours of 7pm – 11pm from Tuesday 4 May to Friday 7 May to facilitate drainage connection and remedial works. Access/egress to Casselbank Street, Crown Street, Stead's Place/Springfield Street and Smiths Place will be controlled from FOTW and access/egress to Jameson Place via Dalmeny Street. Traffic marshals will be on hand to assist.

Leith Walk at Arthur Street - Footpath/Cycle Way Adjustments 

There will be minor adjustments to the fence line on Leith Walk at Arthur Street from Monday 26 April 2021 for approximately 3 weeks.  This is to accommodate duct installation works in the footpath.

McDonald Road Closure 

From Saturday 27 March McDonald Road junction with Leith Walk will close to traffic. This is to facilitate main infrastructure works on Leith Walk. Local diversions will be in place.


Annandale Street to Balfour Street - Cycleway Adjustments 

In order to create the segregated cycle lane on Leith Walk sections of the cycle between Pilrig Street and Dalmeny Street to accommodate the works. While these works are being carried out there will be restrictions in in place for cyclists. Where possible, alternative routes will be signposted for cyclists, however there may be instances when this is not possible. 


Road Closure – Springfield Street / Road Opening – Stead’s Place
 
Access and egress to Springfield Street from Leith Walk will be closed from Tuesday 26 January.  Traffic will be diverted via Stead’s Place which will be opened to facilitate the closure.
 


Jane Street at Jane Street Industrial Estate - Temporary Road Closure - NOW OPEN

The reinstatement of the cobbles is now complete on Jane Street within the Industrial Estate and the localised closure has now been lifted. 


Leith Walk at Jane Street - Footpath / Cycleway Changes 

There will be minor adjustments to the fence line on Leith Walk at Jane Street from Monday 26 April 2021 for approximately 7 weeks to accommodate utility works on the footpath. Directional signage will be in place to facilitate.

Manderston Street – Temporary Road Closure

Due to the complexity of the 500mm diameter gas diversion works on Manderston Street / Leith Walk the Road Closure on Manderston Street has been extended until May 2021.  Localised diversions and parking restriction will be in place with pedestrian access being maintained at all times.

Croall Place – Adjustments to Footpath

In order to progress the works and install the new drainage system the reduction of the footpath width and closure on the bi-directional cycleway at Croall Place between McDonald Road and the large digital advertising screen on Leith Walk will remain in place.  Further information on reopening will be communicated in our fortnightly newsletter.

 

FOOT OF THE WALK TO NEWHAVEN 

Baltic Street Junction – Temporary Traffic Lights

The carriage way at Bernard / Baltic Street junction will be reduced to one lane traffic, controlled by temporary traffic lights. This will be in place from Wednesday 17 March for approximately 12 weeks.


Lindsay Road - Traffic Management Adjustments 

From Monday 29 March works will start on the south side of Lindsay Road. To accommodate these works the traffic management arrangements will be adjusted in the area. Local diversions for pedestrians and motorists will be in place. These new arrangements are expected to be in place until mid-May. On completion traffic management arrangements will flip back to the north side of Lindsay Road to continue with main infrastructure works. 


Traffic Management Adjustments at Constitution Street/Ocean Way junction with Tower Street

We will be revising the current traffic management arrangements at the Constitution Street/Ocean Way junction with Tower Street to include an additional traffic light head at Constitution Place, changing the current 3-way set up to 4-way. This will be in place from Monday 29 March 2021 to further progress the works in this area.


Mitchell Street – Road Closure

We will be closing vehicle access to Maritime Lane from Mitchell Street on Wednesday 7 April. This closure is to progress track works across the junction and is expected for up to 10 weeks. A  temporary pedestrian walkway connecting both sides of the street between Queen Charlotte Street and Mitchell Street / Maritime Lane has been installed and will be in place to facilitate the ongoing works.

Foot of the Walk to Laurie Street – Tram Stop Works

On Tuesday 6 April works will commence to construct the tram stop between the Foot of the Walk / Laurie Street. These works require closure to the east side of the foot way. Local diversions remain in place for pedestrians with localised access to businesses in place. 


Ocean Way - Footpath Works 

We will be carrying out site investigation works on the footpath at Ocean Way on the west side from Monday 26 April 2021 for approximately 3 days.  Pedestrian diversion will be in place to accommodate these works with access to properties being maintained at all times.
