Bus lane notices

Challenge a bus lane notice

We are improving the way that you can challenge your bus lane charge notice. You can now do this much quicker and easier with our new online services. You will no longer be able to dispute your charge notice by email. All requests must be put in writing and we cannot accept appeals over the phone. You will need

  • the bus lane charge notice number
  • your vehicle registration.

Online

The simplest way to challenge your charge notice is online. You can view a video taken at the time the notice was issued. This will be available one day later. You can track your appeals, attach supporting evidence and receive quicker responses from us.

Challenge reasons

If you are unsure which ground applies you can still appeal and explain your case to the adjudicator:

  • The alleged bus lane contravention did not occur.
  • Other proceedings are being pursued in relation to the contravention.
  • You were not the registered keeper of the vehicle at the time the alleged bus lane contravention occurred.
  • You are a vehicle hire firm, have supplied the name and address of the hirer of the vehicle and the hirer has signed a statement accepting liability for any charges incurred during the period of hire.
  • The Council alleges you were the hirer of the vehicle and responsible for the charge but this is not correct.
  • At the time of the alleged bus lane contravention the vehicle was being kept by a vehicle trader.
  • The Council alleges you are responsible for the charge because you were a vehicle trader and this is not correct.
  • When the bus lane contravention occurred the vehicle had been taken without your consent.
  • The charge is the wrong amount.
