Your savings, investments and expenses
When calculating your charge for care at home, we include
- bank, building society and savings accounts
- premium bonds
- shares, calculated at market value
- national savings certificates
- annuity income
- savings or Income bonds
- trusts, we require the terms and conditions
- any other savings or investments
- the value of a second property.
We exclude
- saving and investments to the value of £10,000.
Please put the full amount of your savings and investments on the form and we will deduct £10,000 from the total.
Your expenses
You need to tell us what you pay
- rent
- mortgage payments on first homes, not second homes
- Council Tax
- Child Support Agency payments
- care or support charges, if you are already paying the Council for another care or support service
- CATS alarm or telecare
- Some costs associated with a disability may be treated as expenses, such as a prescribed diet.
When we work out your charge we include a personal allowance of
- £218 per week for a single person
- £332 for a couple.
This allowance is to cover every day living expenses such as food and heating and lighting.
