Hosting and promoting events
Planning events is a fantastic way to engage your community with your greenspace. You can organise activities such as clean-ups and walking groups, or perhaps nest box building and picnics.
In order to host an event, you first need to apply to the Council for permission.
You need to be consistent with your safety checks and ensure all health and safety measures are in place.
You must make sure you communicate all the information about your event to your Council Officer, includining details about the event, safety procedures and any potential risks.
How to promote your event
Getting the word out about your events and projects is very important for your group to thrive. When you share what you are planning to do, more people will notice, understand your mission, and want to join in. Some of the ways you can spread the word and get publicity are:
Posters and flyers
- create eye-catching posters for park notice boards, schools, local shops, pubs, libraries, and community centres
- distribute smaller flyers or leaflets to hand out personally or leave on shop counters.
Newsletters
- establish a secure database of members’ email addresses for quick dissemination of information. Ensure you are GDPR compliant.
- use well designed newsletters to keep members and the community updated with news, upcoming activities, and sign-ups for new memberships.
Social media
- use popular platforms like Facebook, X, Instagram and TikTok to share updates, connect with the community and promote your events. Each platform serves different demographics, so choose the right one for your audience
- ask your fellow friendly groups to share the info on their social channels or on their website.
